Description

An incredible field blend of 8 varieties from one of the most auspicious red wine growing sites on Waiheke (arguably New Zealand). Named for the violent battles the Maori fought on this land, winemaker Luc Desbonnet's amazing reverence for the site shows through in the wine. As impressive as any red wine in New Zealand, this tiny production wine needs to be tasted to be believed. 2014 blend is 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, 15.5% Petit Verdot, 8.5% Cabernet Franc, 8.5% Tannat, 8% Syrah, 3.5% Viognier and 3% Kolor.

Smells

Pure cassis and sweet basil, giving way to amazingly complex cedar, warm earth, new leather and myriad delicate floral notes. So complete and beguiling.

Tastes

Fiercely concentrated and opulent with pencil shavings, dark plummy fruit, mulberry, espresso and blackcurrant, the finely grained tannins sneak up on you and assure you of the wine's long-term intentions. A unique and super impressive red made in only tiny quantities, this is a must for the serious collector. Enjoy now to 2030+.
