Description
Most Kiwi’s started or start their red wine journey tasting many treats Australia has to offer, I know I did. And Wynns Coonawarra Estate labels always got me a little excited and put a skip in my step, offering amazing quality especially for the price, iconic wines that set a very high benchmark. Wynns was founded by John Riddoch in the late 1800s in Coonawarra. John recognised the potential of the rich, red Terra Rossa soils and the long ripening season of Coonawarra’s cool southerly climate. A man of great vision and luckily the wines still continue to over-deliver on quality and price.
Smells
warm aromas of milk and dark chocolate, blackcurrants, blackberries, mulberries with an undercurrent of baked red earth, vanilla, and toasty oak.
Tastes
the salivating, linear texture of this wine speaks of the Terra Rossa soils of Coonawarra, as does the Ribena juice concentrate aromas and flavours. The bouquet alone makes me feel like I am meeting an old friend. The palate is characteristically long and focused with chewy tannins balanced by a chalky acid thread. Perfect for any BBQ with family and friends, as well as it will cellar 3-4 years, that is if you can resist.
