PERFECT VINTAGE...NEAR PERFECT SCORE 99/100!

Rare Once in a Lifetime Wine Experience

Last chance to purchase a perfect vintage of NZ's Finest 1st Growth Bordeaux equivalent, at a fraction of the cost.

Puriri Hills make NZ's finest Right Bank Bordeaux style red wine, with Pope being their Grand Cru tier. NZ’s equivalent to Chateau Cheval Blanc… only at $159.99 - a fraction of its price, and sadly a fraction of its production volumes with only 1500 bottles ever made

Unlike the French 1st Growths, Pope is only released in the truly great vintages… from 2010 we patiently waited a few years until the 100 point perfection 2013 was released. Given 2014 was an outstanding vintage also, we only had to wait a year for this current Pope, but alas we are now on the final stocks of this in NZ.

There will be a 2015, but given it was a slightly more challenging vintage it will not be released anytime soon, and there will not be another after that till 2019 or 2020 - making it a long time between drinks for collectors and fans!

We realise the very fortunate position we are in here, tasting wines of this stature more often than most people, so trust us when we say with hand on heart that this is a very special once in a lifetime wine experience.

It fills us with pride that an NZ producer is able to craft something of equivalent quality to the great houses of Bordeaux who have centuries of experience. And to be able to create this at such an affordable price relative to the great wines is equally astounding, and the reason that the World is now following brands like Puriri Hills and hunting down stock wherever they can find it - realising what a bargain it is!

And this astonishing winery will become a product of its own success, with its wines becoming harder to find, with demand pushing up the price no doubt. Which is why you should seize the day and secure this unbelievable wine which will last for decades when cellared well.

The 2014 vintage is a blend of 41% Merlot, 31% Cabernet Franc, 18% Carmenere, and 10% Malbec. A perfect vintage and one that reaffirmed quality in the region. The handpicked fruit was harvested at a miserly 1kg per vine and saw nearly 2 years in 30% new French Oak. It was then bottled without fining or filtration for a further three years of ageing before release, to achieve a wine of phenomenal concentration and beauty.

Complex notes of exotic perfumes including violets, cassis, dried plum, nutmeg, graphite, leather and a hint of dark chocolate and liquorice. Whopping concentration and great beauty simultaneously with dark cherries and berries infused with chocolate... succulent and creamy but with purity of fruit evolving to a rich, spicy and refreshing crescendo of power. An amazingly complete wine, that is hard to imagine how it could possibly be better....but we know it will!
Push the boat out and grab what you can afford, the 2014 vintage is a masterpiece to savour, share, impress and contemplate through to 2040+.

This 2014 rates alongside 2013 as the greatest ever Pope and possibly NZ red wines. At 7 years of age it's very approachable now... but it's powerful and deeply complex, so we suggest making the investment into a case if you can, to enjoy over the coming decades. With only about 150 bottles left on the market, it is truly a once in a lifetime wine experience, and an excellent buy for the shrewd investor.

Enjoy!

Description

Puriri Hills top wine is appropriately named ‘Pope’ – it’s a wine to be revered, admired and respected just as you would in the company of Pope Francis. Originally named after Ivan Pope, the 2014 vintage is a blend of 41% Merlot, 18% Carmenere, 31% Cabernet Franc, 10% Malbec. A perfect vintage and one that reaffirmed quality in the region, the handpicked fruit was harvested at a miserly 1kg per vine and saw nearly 2 years in 30% new French Oak before bottling without fining or filtration. Sealed under only the finest cork, it’s a wine that will show its best from 2022 onwards and live for who knows how long – 25-30 years conservatively if well cellared. This 2014 rates alongside 2013 as the greatest ever Popes and possibly NZ red wines. At 6 years of age it is approachable now... but is powerful and deeply complex, so we suggest making the investment into a case to enjoy over the coming decades. Less than 1500 bottles made, it is a truly artisanal production crafted without regard to cost.
