Description
Basically, it’s a baby Sassicaia for less than a quarter of the price, a bargain for this Merlot Cabernet (60/40 blend). The wine was created to see what could be achieved with Merlot, a grape that San Guido had not used before and the desire to offer the consumer a wine which could be appreciated at a younger age, compared with their veteran Sassicaia.
Smells
Piercing red fruits, raspberry, cranberry, and red currant aromas are supported by fresh herbs, cedar, and orange peel.
Tastes
The palate has such a focus with cutting acidity yet ample, deep fruit. A plethora of red fruit flavours linger and where the textural richness invigorates the palate, intriguing and commanding more attention. A second sip is mandatory. A complex yet supremely delicious wine that opens in the glass with generous swirling. Decanting prior to serving is recommended but this will easily cellar for 5-8 years or more. Pair with meat sauce pasta and roasted meats.
