Description

A blend of 80% Cabernet and 20% Malbec, this wine has stacked up against the best Bordeaux-style reds in the business since its debut in 1997. On release in 2000, it was tasted blind against Latour, Haut Brion, Solaia, Caymus and Opus One in a series of events throughout the USA and Europe. Nicolas Catena Zapata came in either first or second every time it was tasted. A blend of 3 different vineyards and over 210 micro-vinifications. Unusually it is 100% barrel fermented with 10% whole clusters and 90% whole berries, before 24 months in oak and another 24 months in barrel.

"Complex aromas of dark berry, shaved chocolate and minerals. Full-bodied, bright and fruity with a beautiful balance and length. It's so polished and gorgeous. A blend of 80% cabernet sauvignon and 20% malbec." James Suckling
