Description
Bodegas Piqueras was established in 1915 with Christmas lottery winnings and now four generations later, they are making stellar examples of Spanish wines. The vineyards are 750-950m, 65-90 year old vines with pre-Phylloxera (aphid which eats the vine roots and kills the plant) strains of Monastrell, Garnacha and Tempranillo. Organic practices are used, dry farmed (no irrigation) in nutrient poor soils, high in limestone, producing amazing grapes.
Smells
baked fruits, alongside juicy red fruits, cedar and dark baking spices.
Tastes
an alluring combination of juicy red fruits with darker baked fruits, chocolate, sandalwood, cinnamon and nutmeg flavours, soft mouthcoating tannins giving a salivating texture and a fresh acidity giving balance and length. Great drinking now and perfect with cured meats, pasta or slow roasted meats.
