Description
Nonna Silvana is John Kirwan’s Italian mother-in-law, who always quietly asks for this Pinot Grigio when she comes around since her husband Nonno Mario only drinks reds at home. The Venetian wine that has her so enamoured is from a small town called San Polo di Piave and is a lovely example of what Pinot Grigio can be when it’s made properly. Not like the thin, watery majority, this Pinot Grigio is full of rich flavours and texture, with a bone-dry finish, the perfect match for fresh seafood.
Smells
A gentle hint of almond biscuit over the top of jasmine, apple, peach, and pear.
Tastes
Dry, fresh, and textured, with some lees-driven complexity working in harmony with the fine fruit flavours, the finish is zesty and zippy with subtle brininess softening the palate. A class act that’s great on its own or with Frutti di mare.
