Description
The Vavasour family are synonymous with the Awatere Valley and Louis, son of Pete and Anna who created the famous Vavasour winery, has now gone out on his own to head the team at Awatere River. The Awatere Valley is slightly cooler than the Wairau due to its closer proximity to the ocean, resulting in a longer hang time to achieve optimal ripeness, personifying aroma, and flavour intensity. The stamp of Awatere Valley is to make bold, sustainable, vegan-friendly wines using minimal intervention winemaking methods.
Smells
passionfruit aromas positively leap out of the glass, merging through to the more classic notes of crushed, minted peas, gooseberries, and fresh raw sweetcorn.
Tastes
forward juicy fruit with those same crushed, minted pea flavours, lemon zest and passionfruit all tightly woven by the grapefruit, and limey acid finish. Good texture gives a long lingering aftertaste. Delicious right now, confirming all our suspicions about the 2023 vintage, nothing short of excellent. Perfect with ethically caught Marlborough seafood.
