Description

Marlborough Sauvignon has seen a growing trend towards premium expressions, Giesen at the very forefront. Their Fuder range was made famous by Clayvin Chardonnay but their 1,000L barrels have been equally successful on their top Sauvignons. Those familiar with Giesen's range will know that they have released a few vintages of the Matthew's Lane Sauvignon aged in Fuders, and this 2013 release is a new one coming from their critically acclaimed Dillons Point vineyard. Continually going from strength to strength, Giesen are offering some of the greatest Sauvignon Blanc in the country and seem to improve in quality with each passing vintage release.

Smells

An incredibly complex nose, with aromas of rockmelon, blackcurrant, papaya and mango with touches of gunpowder and smoke from the oak influence.

Tastes

Full bodied, layered and precisely detailed, there are waves of tropical fruits followed by hints of smoke, butterscotch and cashew. The acid is perfectly balanced for such a rich wine, and the length of the finish is awe-inspiring. A supreme wine that will highlight the cellaring potential of top quality Sauvignon Blanc, the bottle age on this wine means it is drinking fantastically now, but it will gradually improve for the next 6-7 years too, bringing out more of the smokiness and nutty characters.
