Description
The 2018 vintage for the Hawke’s Bay was slightly challenging, but a year for winemakers to weave their magic and clearly, Alpha Domus has excelled. A complex Bordeaux blend immaculately structured, with an alluring savoury, leathery vein giving instant appeal now. This wine is just starting to drink nicely (at 3 years of age), but make sure to keep some bottles back - this will be phenomenal drinking from 10 years old onwards.
Smells
Beautifully pure florals - violet, roses, and tobacco - with dark fruit notes of plum, cassis, leather and dark chocolate. Everything in place and accounted for...all that's left is to let time do its work...
Tastes
Pristine fruit, with lovely plummy notes, fine-grained tannins and a steely graphite focus that betrays the perfect vintage conditions. Wonderful as a young wine, it's still very tight-knit, so ideally give this some time in the cellar or otherwise, a ship's decanter for a few hours. Outstanding wine to enjoy between now and 2030 and beyond.
