Vintage 2016

Only the finest parcels of Babich's Gimblett Road vineyard make it into Patriarch, the most serious expression of the vintage. 2016 was the fourth blessed (and warm) vintage in a row and as you'd expect, Patriarch is generous, powerful and set for a long life. Relative to the wines of similar quality from the region, prices remain very reasonable, and Babich Patriarch gets our nod for one of the buys of the vintage.

A dark, brooding nose of cedar, liquorice, tobacco, plum, blackberry and gravel.

Lush, plump and very structured, with fine grain tannins mingling with an explosion of fruit and extract, lingering long on the palate. A truly serious expression of Gimblett Gravels Merlot (40%), Malbec (33%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (27%), this is drinking great upon release with an hour or two in the decanter but will also drink for 20 years with ease.
