Description

‘There is one fact that explains the elegance, purity and intensity of the Rockford reds: they are a notch less alcoholic than their Barossa Valley peers, the power, silky, its delivery effortless.’ James Halliday. Another important fact is that Cabernet Sauvignon has been planted in the Barossa Valley since just after 1885. The warm growing conditions provide an ideal climate to ripen the fruit, resulting in rich, full flavoured wines, making for a fitting variety in the Rockford portfolio. The fruit for this wine is predominantly sourced from vineyards on Rifle Range Road. The heavy, Biscay clay soils, produce rich, full styles with earthy tones. These wines will cellar for 15years+ in a temperature-controlled cellar if you can resist.

Smells

A perfumed delight of red and dark berry fruits, black plums, blackcurrant hints, with notes of mint, tomato leaf and earthy suggestions.

Tastes

a medium palate weight, full of dark fruit, jubes, fresh tobacco leaves, aniseed giving way to earthy flavours. A polished wine in an almost old-fashion style, slightly rustic, drying tannins, especially when compared with the more modern, dark, fleshy, plump styles of today. Not showy but quietly comforting at the same time. A perfect partner to roasted red meats and stews.
