Description

Named in honour of Hugo Gramp, the grandson of Johann Gramp who was killed in a tragic air accident in 1938, St Hugo represents the pinnacle of what can be achieved in any given vintage. Matured for 21 months in mostly new French oak hogsheads (300L), with a small percentage of American oak.

Smells

A haunting scent of cedar, eucalyptus, blackberries, cassis, chocolate, pencil shavings and mahogany.

Tastes

Very powerful and intensely concentrated, with embracing tannins providing the framework for a long cellar life. Brightly flavoured, it’s stuffed with fresh black fruits infused with fine cedary oak and a complex array of classic Cabernet tastes taking your palate on a very long journey. It really deserves some cellar time, but if you haven’t the patience, simply decant for an hour or two while you roast up a joint of red meat. Savour this iconic Aussie Cabernet between now and 2040.
