Description
Formerly known as a Merlot Malbec, the Malbec still makes an appearance in the wine although its presence is no longer credited. One of the most consistently excellent wine values in Hawke's Bay, this wine is showing very nicely in its youth but if its track record is anything to go by, it will be considerably better in a year or two. Give it some air if you can before enjoying it, and then fire up the grill while you're waiting!
Smells
Delicate and very sophisticated perfumes showing blackcurrant, espresso, plum, violet, smoked meat, and cedar.
Tastes
Mid to full-bodied with a lovely fine tannic structure, the fruit weight is apparent on the palate, the ripe, plummy, Christmas cake notes carrying a velvety finish with perfect freshness. Always a surprisingly sophisticated wine for the price, this will be at its best between now and 2028. Perfect with your favourite roasted red meats.
