Description
Peg Bay describes the 2020 vintage as unsettled weather initially giving lighter than average crops, followed by a classic North Canterbury summer, enabling perfect maturation where the grapes were harvested with excellent flavour development and ripeness. Their continued excellence with these grape varieties has continued, their Southern latitude producing impressively ripe grapes. They don't spare the wood either, ageing this for 2 years in French oak barrels. Excellent value and an excellent wine for the cellar or enjoy upon release after a couple of hours in the decanter.
Smells
Bold aromas of blackberry, dark plum mocha, and cassis, with just a hint of pencil shavings and cedar.
Tastes
A rich and very bold palate with juicy blackcurrant, smoky meat, plum and vanilla, the palate is silky and balanced with lovely accompanying freshness. Enjoy with good food of BBQ meats between now and 2028.
