Description
Andrew Caillard MW, one of Australia’s most influential critics just awarded Squawking Magpie The Nest 98 point!!!! Don’t expect this to last, it will simply walk out the door!!! The Woodland’s vineyard was planted in 1995 by Owner Gavin Yortt, considered the ‘cradle of quality’ for Squawking Magpie. In 2002 a new 20 Hectares vineyard was planted, predominantly in Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. The quality of fruit from the original plants was sensation in 2019 and the evidence is in the bottle. This is not a wine for everyday drinking, but how often do wines get scored 98 points? A rare opportunity to taste an exceptional wine from our fine shores, from what is being hailed as the vintage of the century. Buy a bottle or two, or at this price, a case!! if they are available, cellar for 15 years+ and enjoy a legendary Hawkes Bay wine with fine friends and fine cuisine.
Smells
a perfumed fragrance of blackcurrant leaf, black plums, dark chocolate with layers of dried herbs and vanilla spice.
Tastes
A blend of Merlot (58%), Cabernet Sauvignon (25%) and Cabernet Franc (17%), making for the perfect marriage. Mouth filling plump, fruit in the mid-palate with plum, cedar and blackberries flavours curtesy of the Merlot, a rose petal perfume due to the Malbec and a striking cassis and a herbal vein, thanks to the Cabernet Franc. Silky smooth tannins simply kiss the cheeks, enveloping the fruit, giving structure, energy, drive, and longevity in the bottle, offering excellent cellaring potential.
