Description
Few wines can match Vidal Reserve Merlot Cabernet for value, its premium packaging perfectly conveying the masterful red wine in the bottle. Tasting every inch, the serious Bordeaux blend with its plum, cassis, cedar and liquorice flavours, it gets better with every passing day in the bottle as the fine tannins continue to mellow and get more harmonious. Yet the price tag remains pleasantly incongruous, allowing almost every wine lover in New Zealand to drink well whenever they choose. Hats off to Hugh Crichton and his team at Vidal... Enjoy!
Smells
blackcurrants leap out of the glass underpinned by cinnamon, cedar, fresh tobacco leaves and a spearminty tinge.
Tastes
showing the classic hallmarks of Bordeaux varietals with cassis flavours, gravelly tannins and a finely woven acid thread providing tension and a framework for the juicy fruit. There is great vibrancy and freshness to this wine that would benefit from decanting just prior to serving to tannin some of those rugged tannins. The perfect accompaniment to all BBQ meats, especially juicy BBQ pork ribs.
