Description
Family owned, this is the fourth generation of the Piqueras family to have overseen the property since it was established in 1915 in Almansa, south-east Spain, some 60km from Alicante and the Mediterranean. Characterised by its low rainfall and poor, limestone soils which are organically farmed at 850-950m above sea level. A 50/50 blend of Syrah and Monastrell offering a rustic, approachable style, that’s sub $20, a must-try.
Smells
are a brooding collection of dark fruits, exotic spices, fine espresso, dark chocolate and subtle cedary oak notes.
Tastes
rich, black fruits with a creamy texture, exotic spices, chocolate, espresso, and rich savouriness. The finish has succulent soft acids and deeply layered cocoa powder-like tannins. With every sip this wine opens up, satisfying more and more. Perfect with cheese and cured meats or a hearty stew.
