Description
Isabel was a family-owned Estate built from the ground up, the terroir, grape clones and winemaking were outstanding, Fine Wine Delivery customers absolutely loved their wines. Circa 15-years ago the family sold their estate to Endeavour Drinks in Australia, owners of Dan Murphys & BWS liquor retail in Australia, of whom Woolworths (WWA) Australia were a major shareholder. Consequently, Isabel Estate wines became exclusive in NZ to Countdown stores, their quality lost in the mire of supermarket retailing. WWA recently sold their majority stake to existing Endeavour shareholders. Endeavour have appointed an independent NZ distributor, these magnificent old-vine Isabel Estate wines are once again available to Fine Wine Delivery customers after a long hiatus. It gives me great pleasure to offer this gorgeous 2022 Isabel Estate Chardonnay which our tasting panel, including me gave a 96/100 rating and all described it as having “Serious WOW Factor”. Their Estate wines reveal the excitement and sophistication old vine Marlborough fruit offers when showcased by very talented viticulture & winemaking teams. As their entry level estate Chardonnay, it sets the benchmark for competitors to reach, and to the making of world class wines in Marlborough… other than Sauvignon Blanc. Enjoy now and through 2030… fabulous with or without food.
Smells
A heady perfume of grapefruit, white peach, gunflint, subtle woodsmoke, toasted sourdough and oaky spice nuances in the background.
Tastes
Classically structured like fine White Burgundy, a racy core of stone & citrus fruit with just the right amount of flesh and a strong mineral thread wrapped throughout. The chalky, citrus, salivating oyster shell, and smoky flavours are engaging and invigorating. One sip and there is no putting the glass down. Serve with deep sea fish, roast chicken or pork belly. For optimal drinking pleasure serve between 10-13 degrees.
