Description

Sauternes the home of sweet wines, a region that must be admired for its commitment to mostly one style, sweet wines which are extremely risky, in terms of the weather conditions required for the botrytis to form and the whole process is awfully expensive. Literally the grapes shrivel, reducing quantity but hopefully increasing quality, but often there are lots of casualties along the way. Sadly, few of us drink enough of these sweet wines. They are well worth it and best enjoyed on their own, instead of desert as it is a hard combination to get right or serve with cheese.

Smells

a wonderful bouquet of dried pineapple, beeswax, roasted fennel, orange blossom and honeysuckle.

Tastes

the balance is superb, there is an unsuspected elegance in these wines, never too sweet or heavy, rather the Semillon grapes give a herbal complexity and freshness. The acid is cleansing and balances the honeyed, dried fruit compote of flavours with a nutty, toasty finish, drawing out the length. Delicious drinking and amazing value for money.
