Description
One producer who continues to have much success with alternative white varieties like Albarino is Te Awa. Under the auspices of the Villa Maria group, the Albarino comes from their Gisborne vineyards and perfectly captures the long, hot summers that the region is famous for. A crisp, dry, citrus-driven white, it will appeal to Pinot Gris and Sauvignon drinkers alike, but there is enough body and meat for Chardonnay drinkers to get their teeth into too!
Smells
Lovely citrus blossom notes with peach, lime sorbet and honeysuckle.
Tastes
Gently full flavoured with a bracing citrus and white peach freshness, the lovely limey notes around the edge call to mind a cold Gin and Tonic on a hot summer's day. Clean and purely fruited, this will convert a lot of people to Albarino before it sells out. Ideal with roast chicken on the BBQ.
