Crafted by Alsace trained NZ winemaker Paul Pujol who spent 5-years presiding over making of the Grand Cru wines of Keuntz Baz in Alsace... no NZ winemaker knows and has experienced Alsace like Paul. And that shows in the richness, purity and balance common to the Central Otago Pinot Gris off his outstanding Prophets Rock Bendigo Estate. Spending equal time in the vineyards and helping to nurture their estate vines Paul is invested in his wines from the ground to the glass. The low yielding fruit is handpicked into small baskets and 100% whole bunch pressed over 5-6 hours using indigenous yeast and takes place in old oak barrels. Fermentation typically takes 3-4 months; the finished wine is then aged without racking on gross lees until bottling just before the following vintage… this is how Pinot Gris is made in Alsace. Paul is the Master of Pinot Gris, and his Bendigo vineyard grows fruit with beautiful structure and minerality. 2020 is a stunning vintage… it will age for years but will be a beautiful experience if opened the day of your purchase.

A vastly complex and thought-provoking bouquet showing everything from almond meal, pear, peach and citrus peel to quince and baking spice aromas.

Very concentrated with significant lees-influenced texture and complexity, yet perfectly balanced by refreshing minerality, the nett result... a lot more weight and richness than your average NZ Pinot Gris. Nearly dry to taste and a searching finish, much like its bigger brother (Prophet's Rock) there's a lot more in common with Alsace. Try a glass with tempura tiger prawns dipped in mild sweet chilli sauce for a delicious food match now and through 2024+.
