NEW VINTAGE FROM MASTERMIND AROMATIC WINEMAKER

Old World Charm Meets New World Terroir

New Zealand's finest Pinot Gris makers Prophet's Rock, have just released their equally popular Rocky Point Gris...and it's only available at Fine Wine Delivery

Prophet's Rock Winemaker Paul Pujol, cut his teeth in wine-making Old World style, putting in the hard yards with time spent in the traditional regions of Burgundy, Alsace, Languedoc and Sancerre. But it was Alsace and their voluptuous textural aromatics, that really sparked what has become a lifelong passion for him.
Training in the home of aromatics not only sparks a passion, but it hones a craft to world-class standards with exacting quality requirements like no where else on this planet!

Prophet's Rock are based in the sub-region of Bendigo in Central Otago, and they have two vineyards there. The Home Vineyard where fruit for the Prophet's Rock wines are grown, and their Rocky Point vineyard...where fruit for this range comes from.
As the name suggests, the latter has a higher content of stony soils and the slopes are treacherous in places. Soils like these often mean lower yields which allow the vines to concentrate on quality and intensity of flavour. It also means more hands on attention with pruning, bunch thinning and of course the careful selection of fruit by hand at harvest time.
These are all the same exacting quality measures given to their Prophet's Rock range also. And the similarities don't finish there, as the winemaking approach is much the same with Indigenous Yeasts used for fermentation, significant lees stirring to give it that wonderful texture and weight, and their hallmark balanced dry finish despite the wonderfully concentrated fruit flavours!

So, you're getting all the love that goes into one of New Zealand's finest Pinot Gris, in their equally astonishing second tier brands...which is why our customers flock to this wine every year, and why we are SO excited to be first to launch the much talked about 2020 vintage for our exclusive 23rd Birthday Celebrations!

And this wine has got it all...the classic calling card aromatics of Pinot Gris are bursting through with pear, quince, spice and peach, followed by a rich almond meal coming from the extended lees contact.

This is a very concentrated wine, with amazing texture and complexity from its experienced wine-making techniques that are straight out of the classic Alsace textbooks. And to finish it all off, it has the hall mark balance and dry finish that has made Prophet's Rock a world-renowned Pinot Gris producer...up there with the best from Alsace even! Cheers, Jeff

Description

Crafted by Alsace trained NZ winemaker Paul Pujol utilising Prophets Rock Estate grown fruit in Central Otago. Handpicked fruit and indigenous yeast fermentation - the same winemaking inputs to their premium Pinot Gris which is undoubtly one of NZs finest Pinot Gris.

Smells

A vastly complex and thought-provoking nose showing everything from almond meal, pear, peach and citrus peel to quince and spice notes.

Tastes

Very concentrated with significant lees-influenced complexity yet perfectly balanced and refreshing, with the nett result a lot more weight and richness than your average NZ Pinot Gris. Nearly dry to taste, much like its bigger brother (Prophet's Rock) there's a lot more in common with Alsace. Try a glass with tempura tiger prawns dipped in mild sweet chilli sauce for a delicious food match now and through 2024+.

We taste, rate & guarantee every wine we sell.
