Rapaura Springs Reserve Sauvignon has been rated 95/100... 4 consecutive vintages by Bob Campbell Master of Wine... and their 2015 Reserve was crowned “World Champion Sauvignon Blanc” at the IWSC Show in London... the equal toughest wine show in the world. This 2021 vintage, which is so new it has only been rated by one critic to date... just a measly 96 points from Sam Kim, delivers outstanding flavour concentration and purity... even more so than normal given the 50% reduction in fruit yields for this vintage... less fruit per vine equals more flavour.

With the huge reduction in fruit yields I am forecasting shortages and price increases for this vintage. I’m not sure how long we can offer this special $14.99 on the stunning 2021 Reserve Sauvignon.

Rapaura Springs history...
Raised in Southland, Rapaura Springs founder/owner John Neylon worked in coal mines followed by a stint shearing sheep before he shifted North to Marlborough and was an early pioneer in growing and exporting green lip mussels. A childhood dream was realised when John purchased several waterside properties in Spring Creek, Dillon’s Point and Rapaura, ideal for growing apples. The family grew apples and operated the largest apple pack house and export operation in the region. The Neylon family converted the orchards into vineyards and built a state of the art winery. The Rapaura property became the family home, bordering a beautiful natural Spring which served as the inspiration for Rapaura Springs. These days you’ll usually find John working on the land, in a digger or driving his big yellow dump truck. John likes to tell everybody he got ‘kicked out of the office’ a few years back but everyone knows he loves being outside and doesn’t want to drive a computer for a living!

The Wine...
Bursting with expressive and musky notes of passionfruit, guava, and citrus fruit. Juicy green apples, passionfruit, and nettle, with a big burst of citrus and tropical fruit. A rich and generous mouthful, with a fabulous acid thread, weaving its magic throughout. Try it with green-lipped mussels and smoked salmon – fabulous drinking over the next couple of years.

One sip and this 2021 Reserve Savvy will become your go-to in the months ahead. Remember... a 50% drop in yields means 50% less available... so be prepared for shortages and price rises. Grab your requirements early @ $14.99 as the price is likely to go up... its already overdelivering without the additional cost burden of a major reduction in fruit yields. Enjoy, JEFF

Description

Rapaura Springs is the new hot ticket for value in Marlborough, with plenty of investment going on behind the scenes in both people and vineyards to ensure that continues. Their estate wines are superbly priced, but this Reserve Sauvignon Blanc ratchets the quality and concentration up a notch. A Savvy strongly speaking of the excellent 2021 vintage, and for all the Covid issues in 2020 and 2021, both vintages have been nothing short of stunning. One sip and this will become your go-to Savvy for the future months ahead.
