The 97/100 James Suckling rated “Jim Barry The Farm Cabernet Malbec”

If drinkability was the only measure… it would rate a perfect 100/100. It’s Red wine seduction for just $34.99.

On the back of James 97-point score everyone wanted to get their hands on this Jim Barry red Suckling calls, “…an exquisite take on a heavily localized interpretation of luncheon claret” Fortunately our buying team were not asleep at the wheel and secured a 112 x 6-bottle case allocation exclusive to Fine Wine Delivery customers in NZ.

This is tribute to the Claret like Cabernet/Malbec blends late patriarch Jim Barry was making in the 60’s and 70’s. I took a bottle home to try with a great mate over a relaxing Sunday lunch… it was one of the most satisfying, plump, rich but elegant, beguilingly smooth, seductively flavoured and textured reds I’ve experienced.

Our Tasting Panel 97/100 Review…

Lifted aromas of violet florals, dark berry fruits, currant, graphite and oak spice, create a tantalising bouquet. Cabernet brings a fine encompassing structure to the plump black Malbec inspired fruits, it instantly feels composed and seductively smooth as layers of cherry, berry and mulberry wash across the palate. Complexing hints of graphite, spices, fine oak and rich savoury flavours broaden the charm. This is a red of great length and beguiling mouthfeel, with well-integrated savoury tannins and bright fresh acid composing this masterpiece of drinkability. Enjoy often between now and 2028.

Take us back to the reds of the 60’s & 70’s if this is an example… 97/100 James Suckling, matched by the Fine Wine Delivery Tasting Panel – if drinkability were the only measure, it would rate 100/100! Bang for buck at just $34.99… it will knock you over and you’ll likely struggle to put your glass down.

Once you open a bottle you won’t be able to keep your hands off it. Enjoy JEFF

2018 Jim Barry Single Vineyard The Farm Cabernet Malbec

The Classic Clare blend of Cabernet Malbec made the way they were back in the 60s and 70s. Who doesn’t love a blast from the past…especially when it’s this good.

Description

Exclusive to Fine Wine Delivery. The Single Vineyard The Farm Cabernet Malbec comes from 1997 planted Cabernet Sauvignon and 1998 planted Malbec at their Lodge Hill Property on the Eastern Ranges of the Clare Valley. This is a nod to the wines Jim Barry was making in the 60’s and 70’s where Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec were often blended.

Smells

Lifted aromas of violet florals with dark berry fruits and a lick of oak spice, create a tantalising bouquet on the nose.

Tastes

This is a very structural wine offering flavours of bright mulberry and black cherry fruit, with earthy, forest floor flavours and savoury notes. This is a wine of great length, with well-integrated savoury tannins and bright fresh acid to finish. Drinking well now and for the next 2-3 years. Perfect for every BBQ affair.

We taste, rate & guarantee every wine we sell.
