Sacred Hill Deerstalker is named after the former occupants of the vineyard, the local deer hunters club, who got a new clubhouse in Bridge Pa as part of the land deal. The land acquisition has proved an inspired decision, with Deerstalkers producing some of NZ’s finest Syrah in the last 10-15 years, regularly rating in NZ’s Top 5. 2021 was an excellent Hawkes Bay vintage and this Deerstalkers has style with underlying power in equal measures. Now 2-years old it is moving into a harmonious drinking place and will continue to evolve and peak at around 2030, then hold for 3-5 more years if properly stored. It’s Gimblett Gravel’s meets the Rhone stylistically, only demonstrably less pricey than its peers in either of those famous appellations.

An exciting and fulsome aromatic mix of black plum, blueberry, boysenberry, with highlights of vanilla, clove, and violets.

Beautifully detailed and layered palate. Subtly powerful and laden with black and blue fruits, it is classic Gimblett Gravels Syrah delivered with the lightness of a quality Rhone Hermitage. Hints of clove and vanilla spice, plus light barrel toast, add to the depth and enjoyment of the enduring, fresh finish. Perfect with venison backstraps, game meats, herb crusted lamb and spicy Sichuan beef dishes.
