Champion, Cult Classic Chardonnay

New Release of the stunning 2019 Vintage

Top Tier, Old Vine, Cult Chardonnay, from Highly Awarded Clearview Estate. It's sublime drinking at our Once a year Festive Price of just $40.90!

The recently released 2019 vintage of one of NZ's finest Chardonnay has already been awarded two Gold Medals and a Trophy for Champion Commercial White Wine of the Show 2020 at the Hawke's Bay A & P Wine Awards 2020.

No other top tier kiwi Chardonnay has quite the cult following as Clearview Reserve, and it has long been a favourite with us and our customers! It has had a very long successful career in Wine Shows locally and abroad, and this new vintage has started exceptionally well having only been released six weeks ago!

The first Reserve Chardonnay from Clearview was produced back in 1991, so you could say they've had ample time to perfect their style! And what a distinctive style it is, especially given the benefit of vine age with vineyards that have almost three decades under their belt!

Hawke's Bay has an outstanding reputation for Chardonnay in general, but what sets Clearview apart from the rest of the pack is their stunning location. The ruggedly beautiful coastline of Te Awanga brings a wonderful maritime climate that the rest of the Bay doesn't experience. The beautiful sea breeze acts as a moderator that cools and protects the fruit. This retains the acid structure and creates a wine with both immense power and incredible balance. Head inland to the likes of the Gimblett Gravels and there's no breeze to be seen. This means the temperature is hotter and the fruit converts more sugar. Great for bigger riper flavours, but with less balance, less refinement and a shorter window for ageing.

This is the wine that big chardonnay lovers covet, and squirrel away in their cellars year on year. The 2019 is as good a vintage as we can remember from the talented team at Clearview, and we expect these stocks to be snapped up quickly. Opulent, lavish, and hugely concentrated, brimming with the usual hallmarks of toasty vanilla oak and butterscotch from the generous proportion of new oak barrels used, with a cleansing sweep of balanced citrus and nectarine acidity, and a hauntingly long finish.

This chardonnay offers one of those rare but truly defining wine moments, and at our once a year price of just $40.90 you'll kick yourself for missing this unique opportunity when elsewhere you can pay up to $62 a bottle.

It's a wine we all wish we could afford to drink everyday, but at this price get your fill as a special Christmas treat and give your family and friends a sublime wine experience they'll never forget!

Description

No Chardonnay in New Zealand has such a cult following as Clearview Reserve, selling out every year within a few months and then being unavailable until the new release. Founding winemaker Tim Turvey has resumed his involvement more closely in this wine along with new winemaker Matt Kirby and together they have crafted a massively concentrated and full-bodied wine that is faithful to the style that made its name. Opulent, creamy, toasty and lavishly fruited, this is sensational Chardonnay that will age and fatten out for 10+ years in the cellar if well stored.

Smells

Lots of golden peach, pineapple and hazelnut with toasty oak spice and vanilla and a very subtle but enticing struck match note.

Tastes

Lavish and extremely concentrated with lots of toasty, vanilla oak and creamy butterscotch characters flooding the massive palate, cleaned up at the end with balanced citrus and nectarine acidity. A true treat for the lover of big Chardonnays, if we could afford to drink this wine every day, we wouldn't hesitate. Amazing wine that is as good as any Clearview Reserve yet. Enjoy with good food and company between now and 2030.
