LIMITED OFFER... CUISINE NO.1 & DISH NO.2 CHARDONNAY

Haunting Otago Chardonnay - just $33.90

World Class Burgundian like Central Otago Chardonnay... the body of Mersault & freshness of Chablis. Special occasion Chardonnay... very limited availability.

Wet Jacket Central Otago Chardonnay was No.1 in Cuisine’s Annual Chardonnay review – to show it was no fluke it backed up with a No.2 in DISH... 2019 is an outstanding vintage and Wet Jacket is world class Chardonnay deserving of these accolades. A boutique production of exceptional quality and character... normally reserved for a select group of fine dining establishments. Covid19’s negative affect on tourism has been a blessing for FWD customers as Greg has generously made a small allocation available to us for the first time. Wet Jacket is extraordinary Chardonnay at just $33.90... a like quality counterpart from Burgundy would set you back many times that.

The wine...

Haunting aromas of tree ripened stone fruits, wheat biscuits, pistachio biscotti, lemon peel and dusty vanilla oak spice. A rich, flavourful palate with salivating lemon zest acidity, which cleanses the palate leaving the desire for another sip. Peach and nectarine flavours are infused with green apples, pears and butterscotch balanced by a fine creamy texture. Beautifully contemplative Chardonnay to enjoy through 2024-2029 with all white meats, poultry and crustaceans.

I’ve had numerous outstanding Central Otago Chardonnay experiences, predominantly those of Felton Road... they showcase the region’s suitability to make world class Chardonnay with impeccable poise, minerality and age ability when the clonal grape selection, vineyard management and winemaking are both fastidious and considered. When Greg Hay invited me to try his Wet Jacket Chardonnay, I was quietly excited... well justified, as I let this superb Chardonnay gently roll over my palate and seduce me.

It will sit in my cellar alongside my diminishing collection of aged Felton Road Chardonnays to enjoy through 2029+. NZ taking on Burgundy... Premier Cru Mersault in quality... at a fraction of the price! We’re living in the lucky country paying just $33.90 for spectacular Chardonnay like Wet Jacket 2019... get your requirements of this haunting wine before our limited allocation is sold out. ENJOY, JEFF

Description

The name Wet Jacket was actually chosen for the area due to the sodden nature of the crew's jackets after spending many days in torrential Fiordland storms. As none of the area had European naming (and they weren't particularly inventive back then), it seemed more than appropriate at the time. The significance of Wet Jacket isn't only of personal interest to the owner Greg Hay but also to New Zealand's history, where Captain Cook and his crew recorded a number of 'firsts' in the New Zealand history books, including mapping, recording ocean floor depths and witnessing the making of New Zealand's first ever beer - (Unfortunately it wasn't for pleasure but to prevent the onset of scurvy). Greg's second tier range to his Putangi wines.

Smells

tree ripened stone fruits, wheat biscuits, pistachio biscotti, lemon peel and lashings of dusty vanilla oak spice.

Tastes

a rich, flavourful palate with an intense, salivating lemon zest acidity, which cleanses the palate leaving the desire for another sip. Peach and nectarine flavours are infused with green apples, pears and butterscotch balanced by a fine creamy texture. Drinking well over the next few years with all white meats. No 1 in Cuisine Magazine and No2 in Dish.
