Description
One of the stalwarts of Kumeu, producing wines for three decades, and of recent times making excellent wines from different and exciting varieties other than the traditional French classics. Vermentino hails from France and Italy, typically in the southern regions and Sardinia in particular. The variety is renowned for lemon, zesty acidity, making this variety ideally suited to warmer climates. It’s perfectly at home in Gisborne.
Smells
Clean, fresh, subtle fruit aromas of pears, red apples, white nectarines with layers of hazelnuts, brioche and lemon zest.
Tastes
the palate shows the classic characteristics of the variety, a dry, racy white wine, restrained flavours of limes, lemons, fennel with salivating, stone sucking acidity giving energy and drive. The palate is incredibly long and satisfying as the subtle oak gives richness with nutty and toasty nuisances. Drink now or cellar for a 1 or 2. The acid in this wine will cut the richness of dishes like roasted chicken and pork belly. Superb.
