Description
The Reserve range of wines from Sacred Hill are a top-notch entry-level tier of wines, that are still produced to a very high standard. In fact, this 2021 Cab/Merlot is a stonker, and if colour is anything to go by, then wow, it will knock your socks off, as does the wine. Extended skin maceration, premium French Oak (15% new) for at least 10 months and with power and structure to boot. A wine to be enjoyed with hearty food over the next 5-8 years.
Smells
Blackberry and mulberry, wild forest berries and dark chocolate with fruit cake notes and subtle dried flower notes.
Tastes
this deeply coloured wine is an excellent example of Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot from the stony soils of the Gimblett Gravels of Hawke's Bay. Blackberry, coffee bean and aromatic herb characters lead from the nose to the palate, combining with plush tannins and savoury characters which last to a long finish. It's packed with fruit and carries a punch, but given a few years, it will be mind-blowing. Or if you cannot wait, decant an hour prior to serving. It will drink well with roast lamb, beef or venison.
