Barrel Aged and cellared to perfection.

Aged in oak for 24 months and cellared for seven years to offer you a rare 10 year old wine for the bargain price of just $18.90...Elsewhere up to $26.99

Well, here's an opportunity that doesn't come along every day...A rare 10 year old Gran Reserva wine, internationally acclaimed for only $18.90!

The Tempranillo grapes for this wine come from the ancient vineyards of Valdepenas in the rural heart of Spain from thirty year old vines.
Valdepenas means "valley of stones" due to its clay and chalky lime soils which are peppered with stones. These stones attract the heat during the intensity of the day, and release it slowly during the cool of night. The layer of chalk holds moisture - essential for an area where there is no irrigation! Centuries of experience tending this land is evident in every bottle of Anciano Wines...and none more so than their Gran Reserva range which is given a lot of winemaking love.
The wine is aged in oak barriques for 24 months with varying toast levels to give the wine texture and complexity. Once bottled it is then cellared for a further seven years until it's deemed 'aged to perfection'. Given the time taken for shipping etc, we are now looking at a wine that has ten years of age on it - and that's hard to come by, virtually impossible at this amazing price!

The other thing that is quite rare about this wine is that even at ten years of age it is drinking perfectly right now, with plenty of life still to come. The fact that it has picked up THREE INTERNATIONAL GOLD MEDALS THIS YEAR ALONE should give you confidence in how it's showing right now. But that's where the winning formula of experience and vine age really comes in to play, with an exquisite balance of fruit still evident, along with secondary characters and structure just starting to play their part.

Concentrated red fruit flavours are packed into this wine and as you'd expect with an aged wine....silky smooth tannins and a soft warm finish. This is a unique proposition...old world wine at its best, offering quality, age and exceptional value for just $18.90 a bottle! Cheers, Jeff

Vintage 2010

A remarkably consistent and high quality region to grow grapes, Valdepenas in Spain means "valley of rocks" thanks to its stony soils. This 2010 Tempranillo is aged in French and American oak for at least 24 months before several more years aging in bottle for release at 7 years old. Remarkable buying in the early 20's!

Rustic and savoury with notes of old leather, forest floor, cigar box and chocolate.

Smooth and medium bodied, the palate is filled with dark chocolate, leather, blackberry and toasty flavours, with game and balsamic notes on the finish, this is a rich, hearty red that offers incredible value at the price. Enjoy now or cellar through 2024.
