Description
Prima Donna, the top tier of Pegasus Bay, because Pinot Noir is the Prima Donna of grape varieties.
Pegasus Bay make one of the finest Pinots in the country with their Estate label - and their Prima Donna label stands yet another tier above – it’s only made in the very best vintages. Like many winegrowers, Pegasus Bay had a nearly perfect vintage with a warm start to spring followed by a sunny summer and lingering cool, dry autumn in 2016. Weighing in at a perfectly balanced 13.5% alcohol, it tastes much more powerful, a testament to the low cropping and concentration of the ancient vines. Definitely better when decanted, this wine kept blossoming in the glass for an hour or more, throwing off its oak cloak and expressing wild herbs and game notes to go with the densely packed fruit profile.

Smells
Haunting perfumes of dark cherries, mulberry and thyme, with well-integrated oak, black olives and mushrooms.
Tastes
Super succulent and quite brooding initially, it broadens to reveal a fleshy mid-palate and ample structure, augmented by a gentle kiss of French oak. Delicious now in a decanter or quality stemware, Prima Donna will age easily for at least 15 years. Serve with gamey meats and creamy pasta dishes.
