Description

A read of these winegrowing/making specifications help to appreciate the reasons behind the layers of complexity and fine structure of this prestige inaugural Syrah from Mt Difficulty’s Bendigo Ghost Town vineyard. A complex basket of 8 different clonal combinations in the vineyard, which were all harvested together late in the season. Two different batch ferments added to its depth and complexity, one was fully de-stemmed; the second contained 30% whole clusters. Indigenous yeast only and when each vat tasted just right, it was pressed and put to barrel where it resided on full lees for 12 months. Each batch was racked out of barrel in late autumn and filtered but not fined prior to bottling.

Smells

Deeply aromatic with violets, dark fruits, spices, herbs, cracked pepper and smoky notes.

Tastes

Incredibly juicy palate laden with ripe plum and blueberry. The texture and tannins leave a mix of creamy/dusty sensations with hints of oak derived chocolate and baking spice adding to its large body of flavour. Powerful yet composed with juicy freshness lengthening the finish. Enjoy with substantially flavoured meat dishes through 2027.
