Made with pristine fruit from the world-famous Rifleman's Terraces, from the stunning 2020 vintage - a year the winemaker's are saying "will be one of our very best!". Barrel Fermented using a whopping 40% brand new French Oak, and aged sur lie for 10 months with extensive lees stirring to add weight and complexity.


With a delightful aroma of buttered popcorn, zesty grapefruit and toasted sourdough, this wine is layered with grapefruit, stone fruit, apple and pear. Its generous oak regime has imparted great structure and complexity, perfectly balanced with the natural fruit flavours.

Ideal from now through to 2025 at least, with roast chicken or crispy pork belly. At this price you'll want a case at least!

Description

Rifleman’s is one of NZ’s most iconic and proven Chardonnay vineyards, the vineyard that keeps on giving. From their famous “Rifleman’s” Chardonnay $75/bottle (deservedly so)... yet still has some stunning fruit left to form this totally delicious Reserve Chardonnay. It gets the full suite of winemaking including 60% barrel fermentation/aging with a generous 40% new oak in the mix. It’s aged sur lie (on its dead yeast lees) for 10 months and regularly stirred to enhance the weight of flavour, complexity and richness... you’re getting a lot of Chardonnay for the money!

Smells

A delightful perfume of buttered popcorn, grapefruit, toasted sourdough with vanilla oaky nuances.

Tastes

A wonderful drinking Chardonnay with layers of complexity, grapefruit, stone fruit flavours with apples and pears. Judicious oak handling enhances the fruit flavours, adding complexity and structure, superbly handled. A chardonnay that will impress all and at the price, the sensible choice is to buy a case. Delicious drinking now through 2025 and will partner well with roasted white meats, including crispy pork belly.
