Description

Catena Zapata Adrianna Vineyard is a very unique and special site, the difference lies in the hours of sunlight and in the brightness of the sun, which permits photosynthesis to run freely and ripen aromas and tannins, while the cool climate allows the vines to preserve acids and keep the sugars in check. Because of the slow ripening in this cooler climate, fully mature tannins can be achieved with lower sugars. River takes its name from a small parcel of the Adrianna Vineyard that was the site of an ancient riverbed. It is abundant with little white stones, that provide optimal drainage and absorb heat, moderating the nights, and function like ice cubes after a freezing night. Stony soil Malbecs tend to be extremely aromatic, rich, and luxurious, just like the River Malbec from Adrianna. This wine can be enjoyed young or aged for decades.

Smells

The aromatics are bright, bubbly, and floral with notes of rose petals, rosehips, and blackberries, as well as some black olives.

Tastes

The palate is full-bodied, and the tannins are very abundant, yet fine and integrated at the same time. Fruit flavours of sour cherry, and hints of raspberry and lavender define the palate, carefully wrapped in velvety tannins. A 100% whole-cluster fermentation helps explain these extraordinary tannins as does the high altitude which produces very thick-skinned grapes. A heavenly combination and a wine that needs your full attention.
