Description
At the altitude of 750m, in a small village in Calatayud, called Cervera de la Cañada, lies a single vineyard of dry farmed, bush vine Mazuelo (also called Carinena or Carignan). Planted in 1994, the the vines struggle in the heat and on glacial/co-lluvial soils composed of pudding stones, clay, silt and sand. If you went eastward to Priorat, you could find similar wines at 5 times the price! Outstanding value.
Smells
Wild brambles, raspberries and red currant with hints of graphite and spice
Tastes
Bright crunchy red berries and spice excite the palate. Fine tannins combine with brisk acidity and a long peppery finish. Enjoy with lamb or pork dishes and hard cheese. Best served between 15 - 18C.
