Named in honour of Hugo Gramp, the grandson of Johann Gramp who was killed in a tragic air accident in 1938, St Hugo represents the pinnacle of what can be achieved in any given vintage. St Hugo Coonawarra Cabernet earned its iconic status over several decades... this now equally popular Shiraz variant was only added this Millennium. Matured for 18 months in mostly French oak with a small percentage of American oak, around 50% being first use. Classic Barossa Shiraz with all the oak and winemaking trimmings... it has that cuddly generosity familiar to leading examples from the region... but comes with a degree of refinement sometimes wanting in its peers. Plenty of weight and structure to see it age through the 15–20-year mark if you’re looking for a long cellar prospect... but delicious as a young Shiraz if decanted.


Seductive aromas of cedar, eucalyptus, black plum, berries, anise and chocolate.


Very powerful and intensely concentrated, with embracing tannins. Juicy and creamy... it’s stuffed with fresh black fruits infused with fine cedar and chocolate oak with a complex array of classic Shiraz spice and anise taking your palate on a very long journey. Built for the long haul it really deserves some cellar time, but if you haven’t the patience, simply decant for an hour or two while you roast up a joint of red meat. Savour this iconic Aussie Shiraz between now and 2035.
