Description
Another wine from superstar Telmo Rodriguez, who grew up in Rioja, where his family owns the famed Remelluri Estate. Telmo loves to work with native grapes, biodynamic growing methods and who seeks out old bush vines to express the diversity of this interesting and dynamic wine country. This mono- variety Monastrell (Mourvèdre in French) is from the region of Alicante, from the very warm vintage of 2019 resulting in small yields but very concentrated grapes, perfect for making great wine.
Smells
aromas of dark plums giving way to an earthy, tarry almost underbrush note with hints of cinnamon and nutmeg.
Tastes
surprisingly elegant on the palate as Monastrell can be a tannic beast. The palate is full of dark berries flavours, milk chocolate with a lovely thread of spice and a lightness due to lifted, red fruit flavours of raspberries and strawberries. The tannins are smooth and fine, perfectly in harmony with the fruit weight. Drinking well now and over the next 3-4 years. The ideal BBQ wine or your local BYO.
