Description

Mercurey is a small village in the Cote Chalonnaise just south of Cote d’Or which is the heart of the famous Burgundy region. Mercurey is part of Burgundy producing wines made from 100% Pinot Noir and typically in a slightly morerustic style compared to wines from Cotes de Nuits or Cotes de Beaune. An opportunity to taste more approachable and affordable Pinot from the home of Pinot Noir. Be careful it can be a gateway to the love of Burgundy and especially wines of the Cote d’Or, which can break the piggy bank. This is a good place to start..

Smells

charismatic bouquet showing lovely development, forest floor, leather and spice riding an undercurrent of wild raspberries, cranberries, and cherry stone.

Tastes

A Pinot which opens out with airtime, lighter in colour but boy it has some power on the palate. Savoury flavours dictate the palate, mushrooms, rosehips, cranberries with cedar and spice all encased in a dense framework of chewy robust tannins and salivating, somewhat austere acid right now. A wine that needs a little more time to achieve integration and harmony. If you cannot hold back, decant just prior to serving, otherwise cellar for 5 years+. Serve with game or pasta.

We taste, rate & guarantee every wine we sell.
