Maude have taken NZ by storm in recent years... rapidly morphing into one of NZ’s most iconic, cult producers. Their focus is on terroir driven wines crafted by the brilliant, extremely talented, husband & wife winemaking team of Sara-Kate & Dan Dineen. Key to their striking wines and domestic & global successes. Poison Creek is another single vineyard located in Wanaka – and beautifully highlights their choice of terroir expressed by winemaking excellence. This is everything you want in a Pinot and could easily be mistaken for a high-end red Burgundy. Whole cluster ferment… 30 % maceration on skins for 30 days… matured 10 months in fine French barriques… no fining / no filtration… maximising purity and structure… sounds very non interventional… rather like making high-end Burgundy. Maude has four single vineyard Pinots in their collection and rarely are any available off the shelf or online due to their small productions and pent-up consumer demand. If you are seeing this latest release from the Poison Creek Vineyard now, do not delay, buy it before someone else does.

Finely integrated aromas of dark cherry, inky, blackcurrant leaf, violets... with an undercurrent of crushed thyme and spice.

Poison Creek is perhaps the most refined of the 4 single vineyard Maude Pinot Noirs. A sinewy and structural frame like high-end red Burgundy with remarkable focus and length. Showing true flare on the finish with salivating chalky tannins that captivate and linger, long after swallowing. Flavours of red cherry stone, fresh black cherry and currant... resonate with crush thyme and forest floor in a complex and slowly unravelling palate. Simply stunning and one to cellar for 4-5 years+. Serve with char-grilled meats or game.
