‘Te Kano’ (Maori for seed) celebrates the lone surviving Kowhai tree affectionately known as ‘Old Man Kowhai’ on the Northburn slopes above Lake Dunstan — on land Te Kano Estate calls home. Committed to rejuvenating the land and a sustainable future through re-planting and excellent stewardship. Te Kano is for those who appreciate the rarest combination of dedication to the land and passion to make the finest examples of Pinot Noir the region can produce.
Smells
Smoky, bacon, with a lovely array of red and dark berry fruit aromas interwoven with fennel, milk chocolate and hints of blueberries.
Tastes
Great fruit weight and concentration with an exciting array of ripeness levels being expressed from raspberries to blackberries and mulberries. Nice oak handling and with sexy, well-balanced tannins. Perfumed and charming are words that spring to mind with fine grain tannins to add to the mix. Great drinking now, but the tannins will allow bottle age.
