Description
At the launch for this wine, Phillip Brodie, the winemaker, spoke animatedly about Pinot Noir being a passion very close to his heart, and how this wine was his baby. Well, perhaps teenager, because this wine has been 20 years in the making, with the vines first planted at Woodthorpe in 1999. Meticulously crafted, Te Mata have gone to great lengths to ensure their first Alma Pinot Noir is one of the finest expressions of the grape you could find. More Burgundian than New Zealand, it is easy to see the thought, effort and skill that have been poured into this wine. It is exceedingly aromatic, youthful and a polished new entry into the world of Fine Wine.
Smells
Intense notes of cherries, violets and sandalwood. Five spice, cinnamon and more reveal themselves as the wine airs.
Tastes
A very elegant palate, cherries, plums, wood and spice combine together with finely textured tannins and perfect acidity. Perfectly balanced, it is youthful and vibrant and will benefit from at least 2 years in the cellar. Drink from 2021 – 2029, with BBQ quail salad.
