A success story of long term agricultural diversification, the Majella property was originally owned by Frank Lynn, and bought in 1960 by his nephew, George, for a prime lamb enterprise. Viticulture was not on the agenda until 1968, when George, encouraged by his friend, Eric Brand (of Brand's Laira fame) decided it would complement the sheep. Eric made a deal to sell the fruit to Hardy's, but the deal later fell through and for a couple of vintages tonnes of premium grapes were left to rot. The risk ultimately paid off, with Majella securing a contract to sell fruit to Wynns, a relationship that continued for 20 years. Now with less sheep and more grapes they make wine for themsevles. This Majella Shiraz comes from the excellent 2018 vintage, hand-picked grapes of outstanding quality started their fermentation in static and rotary stainless steel fermenters for 5 days, before being completed in 300L barrels. The wine was then aged for another 18 months in a combination of French and American oak hogsheads.

The nose is brimming dark plums, liquorice, dark berries and cinnamon with hints of vanillin.

A juicy front palate of dark fruits, mocha and spice. Fine grained tannins work in harmony with fruit and acidity, leading into a long balanced finish. Enjoy now until 2027+ wth hard cheese and big steaks.
