Description

Seppelt’s Mount Ida Shiraz is only produced in small quantities from hand harvested 45-year old vines... and only in exceptional vintages. The grapes are sourced from the dry-grown (no irrigation) Mount Ida vineyard planted in 1975 in the central Victorian Shiraz-growing region of Heathcote. This region is renowned for producing a very different style compared to Shiraz grown in the Barossa... more elegance and exotic spice, a very fine Shiraz indicative of the cooler growing conditions. Just the perfect amount of fine French oak... this is an outstanding red wine experience by any varietal standards.

Smells... Sweet lifted aromas of blackberries, cherry, liquorice, roasted green peppers, fine cedar and savoury earthy notes.

Tastes... Subtle exotic spice and fresh mint sit at the core of the blackberry and fresh black cherry fruit. Embraced by fine chalky tannins... additional complexities of espresso, lovely herbal notes, liquorice and subtle chocolate add abundant charm. A more linear style Shiraz with elegance and poise... and plenty of underlying intent as it stretches deeply on the palate. Perfect with roasted or chargrilled red meats.
