Description
First produced in 1985... it’s an infinitely superior wine these days due to the appellation regulatory changes initiated in 1995, allowing the elimination of white grapes from the blend plus the allowance of up to 20% of non-indigenousness red grapes in the mix with the traditional Sangiovese grape. These days Pèppoli is a blend of 90% Sangiovese with 10% Merlot and Syrah... its classically Chianti with a luscious, smooth palate and juicy acidity. And this 2022 is outstanding, the best for many vintages, worth stocking up on a few bottles.
Smells
Ripe, plummy fruit a distinct passata and dried herb aroma mixing with tobacco, leather, and black olive.
Tastes
Sweetly fruited with cherries/plums nicely contrasted by subtle savouriness. The palate is medium bodied with fine, powdery tannins and a soft, dry, superbly juicy finish. A versatile food wine, this will positively sing with pizza. Enjoy through 2028.
