Description
Bogle are infamous for their, massively ripe, buttery and oaky styles of Chardonnay and this Phantom red blend follows famously in its footsteps. A blend of 52% Petite Sirah (aka Durif) and 48% Zinfandel, not for the faint hearted, its big baby, like cloaking a monster in an eighties ball gown, shoulder pads and all. Not only are these varietals renowned for their bigness, the wine is aged for 28 months in 1-2 year old American barrels. It’s a statement and bigness is my name.
Smells
Lashing of dusty, coconut oak gush from the glass supported by mulberries, chocolate, brown spices and coffee grinds.
Tastes
Generous plush forward fruit showing red and dark berries flavours, cedar, dusty and vanilla notes follow. The palate has a creamy texture helping to tame the somewhat rustic, obvious tannins. This is for those who love big, bold, oaky red wines. Decant just prior to serving to help soften those oak tannins. Serve with a juicy steak with fries on the side.
