Description

Exclusive to Fine Wine Delivery and first time allocated to the NZ market. As you’d expect with a prestige red wine of this stature and global demand... the quantities are very small... so we are restricting its initial release to select FWD premium customers. Best Italian Wine... Best in Show... and 97/100 at Decanter World Wine Awards... plus 99/100 James Suckling and #2 in his Top Italian wines of 2020. Unsurprising to those in the know about this outstanding Brunello di Montalcino and that its from the exciting 2016 vintage. A must wine for all Tuscan fans, from Brunello di Montalcino, a region many consider the king of Tuscany and perhaps even Italy. 100% Sangiovese by law and long barrel maturation, a region producing rich, full-bodied Sangiovese wines with class and amplitude. The Estate has played a prominent role in agriculture for over 800-years. In 2003, Castiglion del Bosco was restored to its former glory thanks to Massimo Ferragamo who, having fallen in love with the Capanna vineyard, bought the estate to fulfill his Tuscan dream. Today the wines of Castiglion del Bosco receive worldwide recognition for their excellence. At 6-years of age on release it is coming together beautifully in the bottle... probably peaking around 2026 and drinking for another 5-10 years beyond that.

Smells

Heady perfumed notes of violets, lavender, liquorice, blackberry, black cherry and plum, the list goes on and on, I could simply smell the glass all night long.

Tastes

Youthful yet very approachable, a fruit forward expression with depth, weight, and power. Vivid flavours of raspberries, black cherry, plum, and forest floor with undergrowth notes and a hint of menthol freshening and penetrating the tastes buds. Compelling and engaging on every level with fine tannins and brisk acidity completing the picture. Too easy to drink now, but cellar 10-years+ and the rewards will be well worth the wait. This will marry well with beef pasta, porcini, and roasted meats.

We taste, rate & guarantee every wine we sell.
