$18.99 French Red that Shocked World Wine Markets...

An unmissable 2nd shipment of the 2018 Cellier des Dauphins Reserve Côtes du Rhône that sent shockwaves around the wine world with its Huge 97/100 + Platinum Trophy at the Annual “Decanter World Wine Awards” in London where it edged out many wines retailing for hundreds of $$$... this is shockingly delicious French Red for just $18.99.

In 3 weeks during July, we sold a 1,000-dozen container load of Cellier des Dauphins 2018 Reserve Côtes du Rhône Rouge on the back of its STAGGERING Decanter World Wine Awards announcements. 789 dozen sold in 2-weeks, the other 211 dozen disappeared to repeat purchasers in the ensuing week. Little wonder when 114 customers sent in effusive reviews (see examples below) averaging 4.6 out of 5.

Two examples of customer feedback for this giant killing French Red.

“After more than 50 years drinking good red wine and more than 20 years as a Fine Wine Delivery customer, I believe the Cellier des Dauphins is unquestionably the best sub $20 red I have ever enjoyed - and there have been many! It would be great value at twice the price.”
John MacLachlan

“I have followed FWD recs very happily for several years. Your review of Celliers des Dauphins is no exception. While no expert, I appreciate that it is of a really unbelievable quality, at a more than moderate price. As you say, I found it both complex, harmonious and very enjoyable. A pleasure to experience such a wine.” - Donald Budden

About Celliers des Dauphins...
Created in 1967, the Union of Côtes du Rhône winegrowers (UVCDR) brought together 2,300 winemaking families in the Southern Rhône Valley. Their combined terroir covers 12,500 hectares of vines across 20 Rhone AOCs. Included in their diverse vineyard assets are many estates of worldwide repute. Their prized vineyards located in the Côtes du Rhône, Côtes du Rhône Villages, and Crus like Vinsobres. It is the diversity, size of their holdings and scale of economy that enable them to produce a red of this quality magnitude for such a small price.

The Wine...
You are immediately engaged and intrigued by the complex array of floral, dark fruit, spice, garrigue and forest floor aromas. On the palate the charming mix of black, red, blue fruits, dried herbs, spice and vanillin are in complete harmony. It is super supple and utterly delicious with outstanding length and savoury richness, the experience from bouquet, taste to finish is magnificent. You’ll cherish and remember every glass. Enjoy now through 2028.

In our 24-years we have never tasted a red wine of any variety/style that delivers so much excitement under $20. Approaching 4-years it is outstanding now with its peak drinking ahead through 2024/2028.

After the 3-week 1,000 dozen sellout in July we have kept nagging for more, and our diligence has been rewarded with a 2nd smaller 500-dozen shipment just in time for Christmas. Most previous buyers will have consumed their July purchases. And at a time when prices are going up everywhere, at the same sensational price of $18.99 they will be lining up for more. It will drink superbly through 2028, so if you missed out in July, stock up on this shockingly delicious French red. Wines of this calibre at $18.99 are so very RARE... so spend forward if you can and secure stocks to revisit during the next few years.

Happy Xmas & New Year, JEFF

Great wine and at an amazing price!

23rd July 2021 | Mark Holder

Great wine @ this price. Actually a decent wine at a much higher price too. The problem it's so good at this price it's a quaffing wine so I need more.

22nd July 2021 | Chris Franich

value!!

19th July 2021 | Tom Pritchard

A pleasant surprise for a NZ export from the Rhone region. A good value for the price and very enjoyable, we have ordered some more :)

7th July 2021 | Deniz Sumengen

Excellent European wine ,lives up to its expectations, light and smooth. Its great to taste a good quality Northern hemisphere wine, without reaching deep into your pocket for your Gold Card.

6th July 2021 | Kevin Mcleod

Enjoyable glass of red. Can't get to France so next best thing, bring France to us. Paired with a lovely Coq au Vin and thoroughly enjoyed it.

5th July 2021 | Karen McDougall

Bold. Loved it. Great recommendation.

5th July 2021 | Shane Hammond

Incredible value, very good, perfect for watching the Tour de France!

5th July 2021 | Robert Daultrey

A very smooth and delicate wine for the price with a beautiful nose and gorgeous colour. Very nice spicy and oak undertones.

5th July 2021 | Michael Mabille

A very easy drinking wine and great value, thanks for giving us the option to try it!

5th July 2021 | Freddie P

The excitement starts even before pulling the cork with its handsome bottle and understated, yet elegant label. The nose is soft and full of fruit. On the palate the wine is well balanced and long with youthful fruit and hints of forest floor. It is a very well priced, lovely wine.

5th July 2021 | Alan Robinson

Deep ruby red colour, full bodied almost leathery texture on the palate a taste of blackberry and a hint of spice with a long rich finish. Loved it with our roast lamb.

5th July 2021 | Amanda Monks

Great recommendation by FWC and so we bought a case and tried it. It was very drinkable and just as they said it would be.

5th July 2021 | Simon Coles

Very enjoyable wine. Silky smooth with the rich fruit flavours you'd expect from this region. A bargain at this price will definitely be getting some more for winter drinking.

5th July 2021 | Brooklyn

Well rounded and delicious!

5th July 2021 | Carl Brebner

I sampled this delicious wine for the first time last week and have to say it is outstanding quality at a pleasing price. This is an all-rounder which can be paired with a wide range of food choices or simply enjoyed on its own.

5th July 2021 | Allen Miller

Great value for money. Full fruit flavour. Exceptional quafffing wine. Drinking well now.

5th July 2021 | Keith Mackenzie

Astounding value for a quality Rhone Grenache/Syrah blend - rich plum/cherry fruits on the nose, long savoury flavour in the mouth - a great accompaniment to winter slow cooked food.

5th July 2021 | John Wilkinson

Its a wine that combines Grenache and Syrah together in Harmony, absolute joy to drink. My wife and I enjoyed this on our 22nd wedding anniversary accompanied with a medium rare steak.

5th July 2021 | Reg Cuthers

We tried this wine with a cassolette and it was delicious. This is the the best French wine I have tasted for some time and great value.

5th July 2021 | Colin Strang

Superb, a real class act!!

5th July 2021 | Greer Compston

We've only had 1 bottle (so far) but WoW Celliers des Dauphins 2018 Reserve is Just Lovely. Smooth & fruity with delicious hints of spice & pepper were a winner for me and that last sip lingering forever in your mouth leaves you wanting more. I'm not a wine connoisseur but know what I like and this is a wine to savor.

5th July 2021 | Kerry Copas

A very smooth easy drinking wine. Probably will appeal to a non overly sophisticated wine drinker such as me. Fruity but not overly so, lighter than most Australian reds that we tend to drink. Way better value than most NZ Syrahs and Pinots at a similar price point.

5th July 2021 | Nigel Corkill

Great wine at a great price point.

5th July 2021 | Matthew Gregory

As described this wine is best appreciated being decanted. I keep my wine at 15 degrees, which is to cold to enjoy this wine, decant and leave for at least 1 hour and drink at 20-21 degrees. The aromas and flavour come through, red berry with a hint of florals. I feel this vintage will develope with age.

4th July 2021 | miro Cooper

Dry but smooth and full bodied with excellent length. Mouthfilling with hints of mushroom and even marshmallow (dry!) Closer to a classy NZ Syrah than an Aussie Shiraz. Am buying more.

4th July 2021 | Neil

Awesome wine have had two bottles but one was slightly corked

4th July 2021 | michael leader

Great value - this wine has an enticing bouquet of dark plum with herbs and spices. These follow through to the palate which has succulent red fruit with a nice balance of tannin and acid. Ideal to accompany most red meat dishes. Ready to drink now but will hold 3-4 years. Yes I will be buying another box!

4th July 2021 | Alan Evans

Unbelievable value!!!! Love this wine especially after a bit of air. A stunner....

4th July 2021 | Rob Johnstone

Our small but select group of 5 from our Retirement Village think this particular Cotes du Rhone is one of the best ever! Don summed it up with "its smooth & gets better & better", Carol thinks "really fruity" & Nigel thinks "plum & cherry notes", Don notes "full bodied" & Julie says "spicy & earthy", the subtle bouquet is not lost on us, & our cat Baysil is transfixed by the rich ruby colour.

4th July 2021 | Nigel Armstrong

great value, plummy and great length would happily buy more

4th July 2021 | Greg Reeves

Like a smooth talking Frenchman, you too will be utterly seduced by this delicious wine. Great value and delivering a quality drinking experience well above its price.

4th July 2021 | Stephen

After more than 50 years drinking good red wine and more than 20 years as a Fine Wine Delivery customer I believe the Cellier des Dauphins is unquestionably the best sub $20 red I have ever enjoyed - and there have been many ! It would be great value at twice the price. John Maclachlan.

4th July 2021 | John Maclachlan

I have followed FWD recs very happily for several years. Your review of Celliers des Dauphins is no exception . While no expert,I appreciate that it is of a really unbelievable quality, at a more than moderate price. As you say, I found it both complex and harmonious, and very enjoyable. A pleasure to experience such a wine.

4th July 2021 | Donald Budden

Best value for money we’ve ever had. Beautiful wine

4th July 2021 | James Wrigley

I really love everything about this wine. I find it soft and very easy to drink. I love the dark berry colour and and fruity flavours

4th July 2021 | jill Osten

Great drop - sensational when aerated.

4th July 2021 | Hiran

I purchase a case this wine on spec, partly because of the 97 point rating but also as I am a fan of this style. It is at least the equal of any wine previously tried at this price point.

4th July 2021 | Paul Clarken

This is a typical top class French wine with a smooth finish lingering on the tongue. Tasted it with a group of wine enthusiasts and all agreed it is a great wine.

4th July 2021 | Alison Jordan

Fruity and spicy but not too sweet. Very smooth almost silky mouth feel. Warning: very easy to finnish a bottle, drink as responsibly as possible. Definatly worth buying a case.

4th July 2021 | Isaac

We had a dinner party with roast rack of lamb and served this cotes du rhone to some discerning guests . We do not usually drink the granache syrah. Initial comments were a little reserved, but before anyone has finished their first glass people were very excited about the wine. It has a lovely 'aftertaste' that lingers and entices one to have another sip as it 'blooms' beautifully in one's mouth. Needless to say, the two bottles I had opened to breathe were both required before we moved on to a noble riesling dessert wine. Afterwards, guests were genuinely complimentary about the Cellier des Dauphins' granache syrah.

4th July 2021 | Frank Sharp

Enjoyable drop, just don't try to drink it after a mighty Aussie Shiraz!

4th July 2021 | Phil Stoddart

We thought the wine was great. It has a precise, fine-boned tannin structure, with a seamless focus, underneath lashings of integrated oak and fruit.

4th July 2021 | Wayne Ferrier

My wife was impressed by my intelligent selection of this wine and scored me 10/10

4th July 2021 | Robert Cook

This wine is exceptional value. I don’t know much about French wine but this wine makes me want to become more knowledgeable. Your promotion of its quality and value was spot on. Kind regards, Chris Sygrove

4th July 2021 | Chris Sygrove

Absolutely fantastic Cotes du Rhône. Amazing value for money. While it is lighter in the mouth it is smooth and very complex, with beautiful notes of berries, plum and pepper. Medium tannin finishes. You won’t be disappointed.

4th July 2021 | Maxence Cherri

Great with mushroom soup

4th July 2021 | Steve Richards

Really enjoyed this French wine tried to imagine sitting on the French Rivera not to heavy but full of flavour a really good change from my Pinot Noir

3rd July 2021 | Sandie Rice

Fabulous weighted and effortless a real pleasure to drink. I choose to decanter it first and enjoyed with roast beef. As for the price this was a no thought given as it was a true bargain and well above expectations

3rd July 2021 | Eli Olson

This is an absolute steel at the price. Full bodied, Aromatic, luxurious mouth feel and lingering oaky notes. I am ordering another 6 bottles stat, after drinking the first bottle only.

3rd July 2021 | Keith A Gross

A superb wine at a winning price. We agree on the 97 points. Must be the very best value wine we have had from The Fine Wine Delivery Co.

3rd July 2021 | Anthony Blake

My son and I shared a bottle over a pork roast. It was so good my son took the other 5 bottles home with him leaving me to purchase another 6 pack

3rd July 2021 | Keith Dick

Great value for money. One of the nicest Grenache Syrah blend I’ve tried. Tasting it takes be back to our trip to the south of France.

3rd July 2021 | Cae Roberts

Really delicious, well-priced red, with surprising depth for such a young wine. Only reason this wasn’t 5 stars was because the cork was incredibly crumbly and left residue in the wine!

3rd July 2021 | Sarah Heslin

Beautiful concentration balanced by tannins and acidity in perfect harmony. A mouthwatering drop with fruity complexity and great length.

3rd July 2021 | jerome smith

At my age of 82 I know what I like and I sure liked this...took a sip of my usual Pinot Noir and then one of yourCollier and gasped at the flavour of your one.

3rd July 2021 | MARGARET brown

This wine lives up to the hype, classic Cotes du Rhone nose without the common funk, garrigue, ripe red berries & a touch of smoked meat; on the palate rich and smooth with ripe berries, a hint of sweet oak and a lingering gentle spiciness, all in perfect harmony.

3rd July 2021 | John Penney

a great value medium bodied Rhone red which tastes of red fruit and spice

3rd July 2021 | Alan Wild

We bought 6 bottles just in case, and quickly realised it was worth buying at least a dozen. Shared a bottle with neighbours last night. We agreed it's delicious and has a great finish

3rd July 2021 | Margaret Laurent

Lovely wine Excellent value. We enjoyed with lamb roast

3rd July 2021 | Dennis Paget

Compared this with a glass of local Pino Noir no comparison. This win beats them all hands down for its depth of flavour a fantastic wine. Wish I had purchased more !!

3rd July 2021 | Russell Brown

Interesting, full fruited without any harsh tannin s, very moreish.

3rd July 2021 | Jack Nazer

A wine of majestic stature, big in rustic flavours and with a continuing fruity aftertaste.I am normally a McLaren Vale fan, however this wine has literally “ Knocked my socks off”. This wine is an absolute stunner.

3rd July 2021 | Tony Barron

3rd July 2021 | ollie

A very good drop and excellent value for its price.

3rd July 2021 | Leigh Robertson

Very good depth and wonderfully fruity. Could be enjoyed with or without food. Excellent value for sub $20 wine

3rd July 2021 | Bernard Shiell

Absolutely delicious. So smooth. So moorish. Already bought more.

3rd July 2021 | Murray Beckman

Yum, awesome value, wish I’d bought more!

3rd July 2021 | Ben Davies

This is a stunning wine, bought 1 doz to try out, immediately ordered 2 doz more!

3rd July 2021 | Alison Hamilton

The price, the age, the fact it was french; I just had to try and that first mouthful - those aged vines, those grapes, - I was immediately transported away to the countryside of France. What a bargain; what a wine to enjoy both on its own and with food. Thoroughly recommend it!!

3rd July 2021 | Helen Thode

Check back with me in 5 yrs time as the wine went directly into my cellar.

3rd July 2021 | G Hochstetter

This wine lived up to all expectations. It may well be one of the best $18 bottles ive ever bought.

3rd July 2021 | Todd Dowling

10/10

3rd July 2021 | Tim

Perfect wine with pleasant flavours.

3rd July 2021 | Ritesh

Smooth and very enjoyable wine

3rd July 2021 | Blair Cornthwaite

Value is the strong suit for this wine. At 13.5% alc it's on the lighter side but full of soft well balanced fruit with neither variety pushing the other to one side. With a cork top it makes you realise how well we have accommodated the screw cap and even for me as a traditionalist, the screw cap is definitely the way. But once the old cork screw has taken you down memory lane, the wine won't disappoint and at the price what's not to like?

3rd July 2021 | Greg Carter

Very memorable wine. Smooth on the palate with no aftertaste. Very easy to drink and recommend.

3rd July 2021 | Sandra Young

This wine is right up there with the best of the pinot noir from Central Otago which i normally drink although with different textures, it's delicious even my wife who usually drinks white wine went back for a second glass Kind Regards

3rd July 2021 | Richard Duerden

Rich, velvety, a very nice wine to have with dinner.

3rd July 2021 | Donovan

Good value for money. Lots of character especially silky pepper blend with a nice after taste. Enjoyed it with a lamb dish.

3rd July 2021 | Lloyd Ratnaraja

Delightful wine. Perfect with roast beef (and pizza) and cheese.

3rd July 2021 | Chrissy Denison

Only had one bottle so far but if that's anything to go by it surely is a superb vintage.

3rd July 2021 | Bruce Johnston

My wife and I spent a month touring France and we drank a lot of the wine as we travelled around and this wine brought back so many memories, makes me want to go back again!!!! This wine is so lasting on the palate I don't want to swallow it !!!

3rd July 2021 | Graeme Shirley

Rightly negotiated, a blend of Grenache and Syrah is a romance worth celebrating. And here we are, winningly priced, with a tasty wine that offers indecent value. Oodles of fruit from the Syrah and earthen complexity from the Grenache. The result is splendidly balanced, has concentration and even a little length. Not a world-conquering marvel, but - as every romance should be - just plain delicious!

3rd July 2021 | Matthew Scott

What a magnificent wine. Best yet. Thank you

3rd July 2021 | William Roberts

Excellent value. My wife was most impressed because it didn’t block her nose up!

3rd July 2021 | Mick Kelly

What a Beautiful surprise this true representation is .So full of fragrances, and lip smacking succulence. Bottle was emptied before you could say Vive la Rhone.!!!

3rd July 2021 | BRIAN SANDELL

Good wine, initial strong flavour with a gradual fade from about the middle to the end. Would be nice to have that strong flavour a-little more throughout the wine

3rd July 2021 | Martyn Mayston

A pleasant easy drinking wine, well suited to a pleasant afternoon sitting in the sun while snacking on some of the newly available crackers and a cheese of your choice.

3rd July 2021 | George and Annette Manning

Absolutely beautiful. As a regular red wine drinker this has to be one of the best reds i have bought in a very long time.

3rd July 2021 | David Lampp

This is one of the softest and fruitiest Rhones that I have sampled over the years. I have been a fan of Rhine wines since visiting Provence 13 years ago. For the quality and the amazing price it is a steal!

3rd July 2021 | Rob McNabb

Excellent value, great buying red, definitely the benchmark for $20.00 wines, stock up now

3rd July 2021 | EAB

I can confirm the hype! Both my wife & I enjoyed with the fish & chip dinner in our village restaurant. Truly a great Rhone matching some of best appellations.

3rd July 2021 | John Potter

Classic French

3rd July 2021 | Andrew Rogers

Amazing value, delicious and drinkable

3rd July 2021 | Chris Vaughan

Smooth, but great depth of flavour. Only tasted one bottle so far but has a lovely deep colour, rich taste and likely to go with a lot of foods. We had it with a pasta dish with a rich tomato sauce and wine flavour held up well. Great buy.

3rd July 2021 | Roy Carroll

Very enjoyable and great value for money. Plenty of fruit and spice.

3rd July 2021 | Malcolm Knight

Structured and sophisticated - but still readily accessible …thoroughly enjoyable!

3rd July 2021 | Joe Woollaston

Very nice french red

3rd July 2021 | Nick

Like a velvet glove without the iron hand

3rd July 2021 | Roger Perkins

A very nice drop for the price. The French are still the masters of the art!

3rd July 2021 | Mark Bennett

Well worth the $$, a fantastic eg of its class.

3rd July 2021 | David Campbell

I was a bit suspicious of the hype, but decided to get 6 bottles. Remarkable wine for the price. Beautifully made with fine grained tannins, intense fruit and a general touch of class not usually found in wines of this price. Would buy lots more if my wife allowed me to.

3rd July 2021 | Rodney Downey

Brilliant wine - smooth & full flavoured - 1 of the best purchases of the year from FWDC

3rd July 2021 | Paul McCloskey

Excellent value. Supple and sweet/spicy, there's garrigue, spicy/stewed fruit, vanilla and spices. It's mid weight and good with food. Reckon it'll be even better in 2 years, but I keep drinking it all up.

3rd July 2021 | AB73

I had read reviews of this elsewhere so I bought some to see what all the fuss was about. Wow - it doesn't disappoint. We have so many great wines in NZ and Oz, but if you want to have some traditional French red for a change you won't do better than stock up on this at this price. Bargain!

3rd July 2021 | John Gardner

As one not usually indulging in the cheaper reds on reading the write up curiosity got the better of me and I am well pleased with the purchase .Incredible value for money and sure to appeal to many.Well done FWDC

3rd July 2021 | Philip Robinson

Very smooth and full of flavour. Very easy drinking

3rd July 2021 | Alan Wills

Absolutely amazing wine!! One of the best reds I’ve drunk in a very long time

3rd July 2021 | Nikki Bull

Tried this wine and it is a great smooth tasting wine. Normally above my budget but I was do pleased I ordered a dozen- well worth the extra cost.

3rd July 2021 | Dave Huxley-Jones

Outstanding wine

3rd July 2021 | Alistair

Lovely smooth wine perfect for old winter nights

3rd July 2021 | Vicky Rope

Amazing wine at an amazing price. Will be hard to beat. I should probably have bought another 6 bottles.

3rd July 2021 | David Prestage

Like all wine write up they sound too good to be at that price but I have learnt through dealing with Finewine often the wines are as nice as they read. The 2018 Cellier des Dauphims Reserve Cotes du Rhone is an educated purchase. It is a rounded red with nice nose and favours. We finished the bottle after a couple of nights and thought it was still nice. I would recommend the purchase.

3rd July 2021 | David harvey

Almost as good as the write up suggests. Benefits from a decanter like most reds do. Will drink well now and into the short term future

3rd July 2021 | Chris Munro

Smooth, deep and rewarding on the palate.

3rd July 2021 | Geoff Bennett
