Legend Hawke's Bay Winemaker makes a statement in London...

Gordon Russell’s $25 Gimblett Gravel’s Artisanal Red wowed the judges at IWC in London to go Gold... beating Prestige Hawkes Bay Reds with eyewatering price tickets. It offers overwhelming pleasure for the money at $25... and cannot be ignored at our deep cut special of $19.99!

Going Gold at the tough IWC Show in London is big... even bigger is outpointing a selection of NZ Bordeaux style reds plus big-name Syrah... with eyewatering $70-$145 price tickets.

Artisanal wines are new to the Esk Valley portfolio, they combine Old-World craft and New World terroir. And the legendary skills of winemaker Gordon Russell can be experienced in the sheer excitement of this 2019 Malbec Merlot Cabernet Bordeaux style Hawkes Bay red. Beautifully approachable now... but tons of ageing potential (up to 10-years) - so an outstanding bargain priced cellar red too.

The Wine...
Heady aromas of dark plums, black currants, cedar, fresh tobacco leaves, graphite, lifted pepper notes and an exotic array of dark spices. A plush array of dark fruit saturates the tastes buds... and it comes wrapped in smooth, mouth coating, cheek clinging tannins... balanced by a juicy freshness. It’s capped off with a gentle, lingering toastiness and hint of chocolate adding warmth and complimenting its complexity. Great drinking now through 2025-2029... and perfect with all your favourite BBQ meats... oven roasted short ribs... roasted vegetable creations and favourite charcuterie.

Gordon has proven the integrity of a Malbec led blend over 25-years with his sensational Terraces red. This Artisanal differs in that it is 100% Gimblett Gravels fruit... with not quite the same concentration, level of new oak and time maturing in oak.

But it is one of the most exciting and statement making red wine experiences you’ll ever have in the $25-$30 category... and should not be ignored at our deep cut price of $19.99.

Enjoy, JEFF

Description

A new addition to the Esk Valley portfolio, Artisanal wines tell the story of the Old-World craft and our New World terroir. And certainly, the legendary skills of winemaker Gordon Russell shine in this 2019 Malbec blend. From the deep stony soils of the Gimblett Gravels, this Malbec based red was fermented in open top concrete fermenters and hand plunged. A blend of Malbec, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon resulting in a deeply coloured and complex wine with jammy and plummy notes.

Smells
