Description

The very first Single Vineyard Barolo produced by the Pio family, for the first time in 1985. Great structure, power, concentration, with a very long life. Produced in small quantities, from a small selection of Nebbiolo from the Family-owned vineyards of Cascina Ornato in Serralunga d’Alba, one of the most historical and prestigious areas of the entire Barolo region, very well known for great structure, tannins, freshness, and longevity. This fine site in Serralunga is elevated at 380 metres, which may explain the wine’s finesse. If you are a Barolo fan, then this is a must try…. serious structure and seriously delicious.

Smells

hedonistic aromas of ripe, sour cherries with a perfumed rose petal lift, with swirling internodes of vanilla, tar, and an earthy complexity.

Tastes

The balance is impeccable, is refined and taut and never ending. Persistent flavours linger of cherry and blackberries, giving way to iron filings, tar with hints of tobacco and coffee. The fine tannin structure is impressive, giving vibrancy, and focus throughout. Accessible young but will benefit from bottle ageing, give 10-15years+ and the rewards will be exponential.
