Description
A new label from Chianti stalwart Rocca delle Macie, this Chianti Classico is the product of a classic vintage. As a result, the Sangiovese has characteristic chalky, chewy tannins that match superbly with pasta or meatballs with tomato sauce, and with a little Merlot just to round things out and give a spicy, plummy edge. A very stylish traditional style of Chianti Classico, this will drink beautifully between now and 2026.
Smells
A full and expressive nose of red cherries, plums, crushed rocks, rosehip, rose petals, and dried herbs.
Tastes
A juicy and fulsome style of Chianti with bright acid and lots of plummy fruit, coffee grinds, cinnamon, and nutty oak spice, yet with a classic rustic charm, with the somewhat drying tannin/acid combination inherent to the variety and region. Classico, an education to the novice and just enough rustic charm to please the purist. Great with some pizza and pasta creations. Perfect drinking now as the nights start to get colder. For optimal drinking pleasure serve at 15-17 degrees.
